    The Holocaust Education Series is presented by the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre from October 26 to November 6, 2011: 10 days of testimonies, workshops, films, expert presentations and discussions that place memory at the heart of our future.


    21 activities open to all from October 26- November 6, 2011


    The Series helps us all understand how human rights violations and genocide are part of our history. Further knowledge about the Holocaust and about acting today on prejudice and for human rights is clearly a stepping stone to living together in harmony.



    Holocaust Education Series Program from October 26 to November 6, 2011





    • Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm at CinemaSpace at the Segal Centre
    The Last Survivor: Stories of survivors of genocides from the 20th century who make sense of the tragedy by working to educate and prevent mass atrocity crimes.

    • Thursday, October 27 from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre
    Teaching the Holocaust and Other Genocides: Professional development day for teachers where experts and teachers will share their thoughts and experiences about teaching the Holocaust and other genocides, opportunities, challenges and successes.

    • Thursday, October 27 at 7:30 pm at Marianopolis College
    Holocaust Denial and Antisemitism, a Contemporary Threat?: Discussion with guest of honour Karel de Beer from the Netherlands, Chair of the International Task Force on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research, Mark Weitzman, Simon Wiesenthal Institute, and F. Guillaume Dufour, professeur of Sociology at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Moderated by Todd van der Heyden.

    • Saturday, October 29 at 8 pm at Gelber Conference Centre
    Eichmann's End: Love, Betrayal, Death: The incredible true story of the love affair between Eichmann's son and the daughter of Lothar Hermann, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated with his family to Argentina after the war.

    • Sunday, October 30 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum
    Free admission: Guided tour in English at 10:30 am and in French at 1 pm. No reservations required.

    • Sunday, October 30 from 10 am to 4 opm at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum
    Witness to History: The history of the Holocaust through the human stories of those who lived through it.

    • Sunday, October 30 at 7 pm at the Goethe Institut Montreal
    Les Roms d'hier à aujourd'hui: Gerhard Baumgartner, professeur à l'Université de Graz en Autriche et expert de la situation des Roms aujourd'hui s'entretient avec Laura-Julie Perreault.

    • Monday, October 31 at 7:30 pm at Gelber Conference Centre
    The Eichmann Trial: Deborah E. Lipstadt gives us an overview of the trial and Olga Sher, Holocaust survivor, tells us what this event meant for her. Discussion moderated by Anne Lagacé Dowson.

    Hitler et la fillette: Spectacle littéraire à partir du livre Hitler et la fillette de Catherine Shvets suivi d'une discussion avec le public.

    • Tuesday, November 1 at 7 pm at the Olivieri bookstore
    Les relations majorité-minorités: quel legs de l'Holocauste?: Deux penseurs québécois, Joseph Yvon Thériault, professeur au département de sociologie à l'Université du Québec à Montréal, et Jocelyn Maclure, professeur de philosophie à l'Université Laval, exposent leur point de vue.

    • Wednesday, November 2 at  5 : 00 pm.in the ArtLounge at the Segal Centre
    Passage: Passages Book Launch, published by Éditions du Marais, a short video clip of the PASSAGES-DVD will be presented, followed with a talk-balk with author and comedian Catherine Dajczman, hosted by comedian Stéphane Crête.

    • Wednesday, November 2 at  7:30 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre
    La Mémoire des Vivants: La comédienne Françoise Faucher livre une compilation de témoignages sur l'Holocauste, ceux d'Elie Wiesel, de Primo Levi et de Vassili Grossman. Spectacle littéraire conçu et mis en scène par Marie-Louise Leblanc.

    • Thursday, November 3 at 1:30 pm at École La Voie
    Hitler et la fillette: Spectacle littéraire à partir du livre Hitler et la fillette de Catherine Shvets suivi d'une discussion avec le public.

    • Thursday, November 3 at 7 pm at Armatta
    Seeking Refuge: Rivka Augenfeld and Rick Goldman will explore advocacy challenges and barriers facing refugees trying to enter Canada today. Discussion moderated by Michael Chervin and Delice Mugabo from Project Genesis.

    • Friday, November 4 at 6:30 pm at the Beth Israel Beth Aaron Synagogue
    Shabbat Dinner: Special evening where Hillel students honour and celebrate the legacy of Holocaust survivors.

    • Sunday, November 6 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum

    Witness to History: The history of the Holocaust through the human stories of those who lived through it.

    • Sunday, November 6 at 7 pm at the Concordia University
    Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today: The trial established the "Nuremberg principles", laying the groundwork for all subsequent prosecutions anywhere in the world for crimes against peace, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Screening followed by a discussion led by René Provost, Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.
