    The Holocaust Education Series is presented by the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre from October 13- 24, 2010: 10 days of testimonies, workshops, films, expert presentations and exchanges that place memory at the heart of our future.

    • Wednesday, October 13 at 7pm at the auditorium of the Grande Bibliothèque
    Adrien Arcand, a Canadian Führer? Jean-Francois Nadeau talks with Francois Bugingo about Adrien Arcand (1899-1967) who organized a fascist movement in Quebec during the 1930s. Simultaneous translation provided.

    • Thursday, October 14 at 6 pm at Concordia University
    Mobilize the Will to Intervene with Frank Chalk, Director of MIGS; Kyle Matthews, project manager for The Will to Intervene; Payam Akhavan, professor of law at McGill University; Paul Rombough, educational consultant at LEARN and François Bugingo, journalist at Radio-Canada, respond to the recommendations of the project and the book The Will to Intervene -Mobilizing Leadership and Action to Intervene to Prevent Mass Atrocities.

    Play Back Theatre Session: with Paula Bultz and Sidney Zoltak, Holocaust Survivor. As they share their experiences as educators, skilled interpreters play back their stories by creating an interactive space for the audience.

    • Sunday, October 17 at 7 pm at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
    A Film Unfinished: Original Nazi film footage shows controversial images of the Warsaw ghetto and the fate of its inhabitants. The research and interviews conducted by Yael Hersonski question the use of these images. Her work will be discussed by Amanda Grzyb from the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario.

    Teaching the Holocaust in English secondary schools: Kay Andrews' (University of London) study proposes a rethinking of teaching the Holocaust in secondary schools in Great Britain and Mary McAndrew, Chaire des Relations ethniques at the Université de Montreal, highlights the relevance of this study for teaching the Holocaust in Quebec. Simultaneous translation provided.

    Teaching/Learning about the Holocaust: Kay Andrews, University of London, presents the educational approaches developed through research conducted with over 2100 teachers in English secondary schools.

    Our Books About the Holocaust: Catherine Mavrikakis, author of Le ciel de Bay City, and Catherine Shvets, author of Hitler et la fillette, meet with Olga Sher, Holocaust survivor, and Sonia Sarah Lipsyc, Director of the Centre Aleph and exchange views on readings about the Holocaust. The discussion between the authors and readers will be led by François Bugingo.

    The Diary of Victor Klemperer - 50th Anniversary of his Death: Public reading by Stéphane Lépine

    • Wednesday, October 20 at 7pm at the Segal Centre
    La langue ne ment pas - 50th anniversary of the Death of Victor Klemperer: The diary of Victor Klemperer, from 1933 to 1945, is one of the most detailed accounts of the fate of German Jews under the Nazi regime. Its author documented the horrors of everyday life in the Third Reich while hiding from his persecutors.

    The Human Library: Borrow the time of a person as you would borrow a book in a library. Listen and dialogue to unlearn stereotypes.

    The Heart From Auschwitz: At the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Museum a little heart shaped artefact represents a story. It was made in Auschwitz in honour of the 20th birthday of an inmate named Fania Fainer. Carl Leblanc searched the world to find the women who secretly created this special present and made a film to tell their story.


    The Holocaust Education Series is organized by the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre. The Series offers 10 days of discussions, expert presentations  and exchanges on issues of racism, discrimination and prejudice. The Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre informs and educates people of all ages and all backgrounds about the Holocaust and on violations of human rights.


    The Series is supported by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and the generous support of individual, corporate and foundation donors.
