- Beth Israel Beth Aaron Congregation(6800, Mackle Road, Côte-Saint-Luc)
Kristallnacht was a pogrom organized by the Nazis: 71 years ago, on November 9th and 10th, 1938, the first of many violent attacks on Jews by the Nazis took place in Germany and Austria, with the rest of the world watching, silently.
On November 9th, 2009, the community, will gather in Remembrance of these events which marked the beginning of the Holocaust. Leo Dortot will share his experience about living in Grazi, Austria at the time and Joseph Faust, born in Germany, will light a commemorative remembrance candle.
Because commemorating the Holocaust is not enough: for its 71st anniversary, the commemoration of this event reminds us of the importance to act against racism, anti-Semitism and any kind of intolerance.
Keynote speaker, Jack Jedwab, executive Director of the Canadian Studies Association, will remind us of our responsibility as citizen to not be bystanders concerning today's human rights violations and crimes against Humanity.
The Commemoration of the night of broken Glass (Kristallnacht) is organised by the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre. The Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre educates people of all ages and backgrounds about the Holocaust, while sensitizing the public to the universal perils of anti-Semitism, racism, hate and indifference.
